IT guy is on vacation and of course the power went down longer than the goddamn power backup lasted...by a mere few minutes. Servers with bad fans, plugging keyboards and monitors into everyone to f1 out of all the errors on the servers. Lost a good solid 2 hours of work this morning already. Since when does "Director of Digital Marketing" into fucking IT guy? While the power was down I was rocking some 4G on my chromebook though on my car hood. Smoking butts and looking pissed off at people because I knew the shitstorm that was coming.
fuck this spaghetti
I think I am going to bag IT guys sweet ass Jaguar 64-bit mug though with the eyes that show up when you put hot coffee in it

That's actually not terrible cable management. I've dealt with a LOT worse than that.

That's a pretty clean rack compared to what I've had to deal with
And yes bag that mug. Then send it to me

"Digital" is in your job title. You are automatically a computer guru...

That actually looks like a pretty clean data center. Sure, I've seen cleaner...but I've seen much worse, too.

Right? At least they're color-coded.

I know them feels. That rack, the top is like my work, the bottom is my coworker.
If you so choose to steal more than his coffee mug (his job), I would suggest moving to lower power servers, and backup batteries that are extreme overkill. I set up a business with a server and battery backup that can last for a full 3 or so days on battery if need be. Average battery load is less than 10% on the inventory database server. 80W machine, 2200Va battery. I got time for that.

So, you're saying you need a new IT guy who isn't going to sluff off all the time? To whom do I send my resume?

Who let the IT guy out of its cage?
So glad I don't deal with that any more

I'm in the same boat man. My title is "online operations manager" but really I handle all our online marketing as well as pricing and internet sales team training/lead responses. But every time something breaks they come crying to me.
Last week our building got struck by lightning and fried our router. Ended up snapping at our service manager because she was the 5th person who asked me to fix it, and her way of asking was "Fix the internet Steve!"
SMH.

Yep, I've risked life and limb trying to clean up terrible cable management in the past. One aisle between racks had tripping hazards, lasers, electrocution hazards and you risked getting tangled in the cat5 every time you walked though it. Thousands of lines needed to be pulled and reconfigured.

Yeah I got laid off a couple weeks ago, been in the job hunt in nashville and surrounding area since. Everyone is trying to downgrade my certs and skill to helpdesk.

ugh yeah well we are not close to Nashville...but 3rd week of Sept I will be there to visit a client in southern KY, then flying to GA the following day. Want to get a beer?

Yeah...that's better than anything I've ever had the misfortune of working on.

Agreed, color coded and neat and tidy, some of the wiring closets here are an utter shit show
![]() 08/27/2014 at 11:49 |

That's pretty good stuff. our IT guy's set up looks like a plate of rainbow spaghetti.

You could always do what I do when technology stops working. Scream expletives at it and then punch / kick / throw it around until it either decides to work or is a charred pile of the shit that it always was...
(No I don't have anger issues; fuck off)

If you think that's spaghetti you have no freaking idea.

I wish mine looked that clean. That is the fun Q3 project, clean up the rat's nest!

That's what I was going to say. That's relatively clean and organized.
